PURPOSE: To provide an EDTV signal recorder which can suppress the deterioration of the reinforcing signal multiplexed to the EDTV signal.

CONSTITUTION: A YC separating circuit 102 separates a luminance signal and a carrier chrominance signal from the EDTV signal supplied through a terminal 100. A delay circuit 200 delays the EDTV signal by an extent equal to the processing time of the circuit 102. A switch 202 is set at the S side to select the EDTV signal delayed by the circuit 200 for the upper and lower mask parts and then set at the M side to select the luminance signalseparated by the circuit 102 for the main part in regard of the luminance signal. Meanwhile the switch 202 is operated in the same way also with the carrier chrominance signal. That is, a switch 204 is set at the S side to select the fixed value set by a value setting circuit 203 as a carrier chrominance signal for the upper and lower mask parts and then set at the M side to select the carrier chrominance signal separated by the circuit 102 for the main part respectively.
