To provide an EL device which keeps a carrier injection efficiency of a first conductive layer high, prevents a conductive member of the first conductive layer from being oxidized, and can control an electric resistance of the first conductive layer; and to provide a method for manufacturing the same.
The EL device includes a substrate, the first conductive layer formed on the substrate, an organic layer which is formed on the first conductive layer and includes a light emitting layer, and a second conductive layer formed on the organic layer. The first conductive layer has a first wiring layer, a first protection layer which is conductive and formed on the first wiring layer to protect the first wiring layer, and a first electrode layer which is formed on the first protection layer so as to come into contact with the organic layer. The second conductive layer has a second electrode layer formed so as to come into contact with the organic layer. The first electrode layer acts as an anode, the second electrode layer acts as a cathode, and the first electrode layer is made of a material with a larger work function than the first protection layer.
