PURPOSE: To realize high-speed scanning with a constitution consisting of only a pull-down Nch output driver IC by applying a write voltage and a modulation voltage to the odd (even) electrode side and the even (odd) electrode side respectively at the time when a scan side selected electrode is on the odd (even) electrode side.
CONSTITUTION: A capacity ratio of the negative capacity or the scan side selected electrode and that of an odd or even electrode to which the modulation voltage is applied is utilized to give voltages VM+VW and VW (where VM is the modulation voltage and VW is the write voltage) to a selected picture element and non-selected picture elements respectively, thereby displaying information. Consequently, the device can be driven by only a sink type driver IC, and a diode array is unnecessary to considerably reduce the driver cost, and further, line sequential scanning in the same one-step operation as a conventional push-pull driver IC constitution is performed. Thus, this device can cope with high-speed scanning accompanied with a high definition.
