To provide an EL element capable of suppressing a noise, an electromagnetic wave, and the cost and provide its drive circuit.

A capacitor 3 used for generating high voltage for driving an EL element 1 is installed on the surface of a back plate 1e of the EL element 1 through an insulating layer 2. Since a piezoelectric material such as barium titanate (BaTiO3) is used as an insulating material of the EL element 1 and the capacitor 3, vibration (a noise caused by vibration) is generated in driving, against which countermeasures can be taken at a low cost for the capacitor and the EL element by integratedly installing the capacitor in the EL element. Generation of a noise from a printed board caused by mounting the capacitor on the printed board is perfectly prevented. The electrode area of the capacitor can be enlarged independent of the size of the printed board, a large capacitance capacitor can be used, in turn reducing the cost by miniaturizing the board.
