Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an elastomer which gives, e.g. a tire reduced hysteresis having low rolling resistance by the anionic polymerization of a solution containing a specified monomer in the presence of a specified Sn- and Li- containing organic initiator.
CONSTITUTION: A monomer solution containing at least one monomer selected from among a 4-12C conjugated diene monomer, an 8-18C aromatic monovinyl monomer and a mixture thereof is polymerized in the presence of an Sn- and Li-containing organic initiator to give an elastomer represented by the formula (wherein R is 1-20C alkyl, 3-20C cycloalkyl, 6-20C aryl or 7-20C aralkyl; and Y is a divalent polymer group derived from any one of a diene homopolymer and aromatic monovinyl random and block copolymers), having a molecular weight (Mn) of 79,400 to 119,900 and reduced in hysteresis. This elastomer can give a vulcanizing rubber composition reduced in hysteresis.
