PURPOSE: To produce an electrical contact material for sealing-in which is excellent in not only resistance to fusion but resistance to consumption by adding PbO and SnO2 to a Cu-CdO system which is inexpensive.
CONSTITUTION: Power materials containing 0.5W25wt% of CdO, 0.5W25wt% of PbO and 0.5W25wt% of SnO2 in a total amount of 5W26wt%, the balance being Cu, are mixed with each other, then the mixture is pressed to be a rod-shaped green compact and the compact is sintered in a N2 gas atmosphere at about 850°C. The sintered body is subjected to a heat treatment in a N2 gas atmosphere at about 850°C, a grooved-roll working and swaging repeatedly to produce a rod wire of an electrical contact material for sealed-in type magnet switches, breakers, relays and the like. The component metal oxides, when they are added to copper in the specified limits, prevent the coarsening of crystal grains in the copper base at high temperatures, improve the mechanical strength of the copper base, prevent the deterioration of the material and prevent its consumption due to flaking.
