PURPOSE: To facilitate joining work to a base metal as enjoying a degree of make- break capacity in an oxide contact material by making a contact on one side into that consisting of a composite material composed of the oxide contact material and a nonoxide contact material and a contact on the other side into that consisting of the nonoxide contact material, respectively.
CONSTITUTION: A composite wire rod 1 is made up of covering a nonoxide contact material 4 of AgNi or the like on the outside of a wire rod of an oxide contact mate rial 3 of AgCdO or the like, while a strip material 2 is made up of covering a nonoxide contact material 4 on the outside of a strip material of the oxide contact material 3. A tip of the composite wire rod 1 is butted to a base metal 5, and an electric current is energized in space between the composite wire rod 1 and the base metal 5, whereby the composite wire rod 1 and the base metal 5 are melted by contact resistance, thus they are jointed together. Afterward, the composite wire rod 1 is cut off in leaving its proper length behind at the side of the base metal 5. At the time, it is very difficult to secure sufficient joining strength for electrical making and breaking with the oxide contact material 3 only, but the joining strength of the nonoxide contact material 4 is large enough, so that the joining strength of the oxide contact material 3 can be compensated by the covered layer.
