Abstract:

PURPOSE: To manufacture an electric contact point material excellent in practical utility, by mixing a Cu powder and a C powder in a specific ratio by means of mechanical alloying and by subjecting the resulting powder mixture to compacting, to sintering, and further to recompacting to exert alloying so as to independently disperse carbon grains into the alloy finely and uniformly.

CONSTITUTION: The Cu powder and the C powder are mixed in a ratio of 90W99.9wt% to 10W0.1wt%, and the resulting powder mixture is agitated at high speed in a high-powered ball mill to undergo mechanical alloying so as to be compounded. The powder mixture of Cu and C as raw material is subjected to a repetition of crushing and joining, which is finally formed into a complex compound in which fine carbon grains of ≤3μ are independently and uniformly dispersed into the alloy. The above material is compacted, and the resulting green compact is subjected to sintering in a reducing atmosphere or in vacuum and then to recompacting. In this way, the electric contact point material excellent in arc extinction characteristic, consumption resistance, and deposition resistance, reduced in contact resistance, and having superior practical utility can be obtained.
