To provide an electric discharge lamp which reduces the number of parts required for a lighting fixture and work load and providing stable start up characteristics.

The electric discharge lamp includes a metal lighting fixture body case 1, a metal reflection plate 4 fixed on the body case 1, an electric discharge tube 5 arranged along a reflecting surface of the reflection plate 4, a socket stand 7 fixed inside of the lighting fixture 1, and a socket 3 fixed on the socket stand 7 at a base part thereof. A fixing location of the socket 3 on the socket stand 7 is located inside of the lighting fixture body case 1 and a clearance L2 between the reflection plate 4 and the electric discharge tube 5 is maintained not more than 11 mm. An adjacent conductive body thereby is eliminated.
