Title:
ELECTRIC DISCHARGE LAMP
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5485577
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide an electric discharge lamp, in which a hollow space is formed respectively around a junction between electrode and sealing foil, whereby bulb sealing operation is facilitated, and it is enabled to prevent breakage of sealing foils and occurrence of cracks at the sealing portions.

CONSTITUTION: At opposite end of glass container 1 made of quarz glass, a pair of rod-like tungsten electrodes 2 opposed to each other and having a diameter of about 2 mm are connected respectively to one end of sealing foils 3 of molybdenum having a thickness of about 25μ. Lead wire 7 is connected to the other end of respective sealing foils 3. A hollow space 5 is formed around respective junction 4 between electrode 2 and sealing foil 3, and a portion of electrode 2 is held tightly in place at neck portion 6 of a substantially spherical glass container. When heating the neck portions 6 and adjusting the distance between opposite electrodes 2, 2 to a predetermined value by shifting the position of electrodes 2, there is no fear of causing breakage of sealing foils 3, since hollow spaces 6, 6 are formed and quarz glass is not fused to the sealing foils.
