PURPOSE: To stabilize electric discharge machining, by detecting the fluctuation of the voltage of a DC power source in a charging circuit for a capacitor provided in parallel with the spark gap, to change the switching conditions for a charging switch to keep the charging speed constant.
CONSTITUTION: The terminal voltage of a capacitor 5 provided in parallel with a spark gap between an electrode 6 and a workpiece 7 is detected by a detection circuit. A switch 4 is controlled to keep the terminal voltage constant in charging. The fluctuation of the voltage of a DC power source 1b in a charging circuit is detected by a detection circuit 9 to change the switching conditions (on- off frequency, duty factor, etc.) for the switch 4 to compensate for the fluctuation of the voltage to keep the charging speed constant. Electric discharge pulses can thus be stabilized without stabilizing the DC power.
