To provide an electric discharge machining liquid which maintains advantages of a low-viscosity base oil, such as a low viscosity increase of the electric discharge machining liquid, and at the same time contributes to improved essential characteristics required for electric discharging, such as electrode abrasion, face surface accuracy, and particularly machining speed, and to provide an electric discharge machining method using the electric discharge machining liquid.
The electric discharge machining liquid contains the low-viscosity base oil and an acid-containing resin in the range of 1 to 30 mass% based on the total quantity of the machining liquid. The low-viscosity base oil has a kinetic viscosity of 1 to 5 mm2/s at 40°C, and the acid-containing resin has a number-average molecular weight of 300 or more.
