Abstract:

To provide an electric double layer capacitor in which increase of internal resistance can be suppressed while stabilizing the initial characteristics and manufacturing cost can be reduced easily.

A cell 5 having a pair of polarizing electrodes 1a and 1b arranged through a separator 2 and current collectors 3a and 3b arranged, respectively, on the outer surface of the pair of polarizing electrodes 1a and 1b is wound or layered and contained in a casing 8. A first through hole 7 is made in the wall face of the casing 8 and first and second metal layers 10 and 15 are formed sequentially to cover the first through hole 7. Furthermore, a second through hole 13 having an opening area smaller than that of the first through hole 7 is made in the first metal layer 10 thus producing an electric double layer capacitor 17.
