To provide a highly reliable electric double layer capacitor to be used for an automobile etc. by solving the problem that electrode connection of an element has unsatisfactory quality.
The capacitor consists of a capacitor element 1 having positive/negative leading electrode sections 1a, 1b provided on both end surfaces; and a metallic case 2 in which the capacitor element 1 is housed together with a driving electrolytic solution and the leading electrode section 1b of the capacitor element 1 is joined to the internal bottom surface; and a terminal plate 3 in which the other leading electrode section 1a of the capacitor element 1 is joined to the internal surface and the opening of the metallic case 2 is sealed. Since density between each of the electrodes is improved over the entire of the leading electrode sections 1a, 1b by a configuration in which the electrode sections constituting the leading electrodes 1a, 1b formed on each of end surfaces of the capacitor element 1 are tilted so that they fall from the center to the external periphery along a winding direction, laser welding between the leading electrode sections 1a, 1b and the metallic case 2 and the terminal plate 3 is positively performed, and thus, high reliability can be realized.
