The electric drive device of an electric mini-shovel comprises a power storage device 7, an electric power generator 27 for transferring power to/from the power storage device 7, a hydraulic pump 29 driven by the electric power generator 27, a plurality of directional control valves 32 and 34 or the like for respectively controlling flow of pressure oil from the hydraulic pump 29 to a plurality of hydraulic actuators 13A and 19 or the like, and a plurality of operation devices 31 and 33 or the like for respectively operating the plurality of directional control valves 32 and 34 or the like, and has a bidirectional converter 28 for decelerating the electric power generator 27 to an idle rotation speed when X seconds pass in the state that all of the plurality of directional control valves 32 and 34 or the like are not operated. When decelerating the electric power generator 27 from a standard rotation speed to the idle rotation speed, the bidirectional converter 28 executes regenerative control of converting inertial force of a rotor of the electric power generator 27 to the power and charging the power storage device 7.
