To provide an electric field communication system capable of detecting the operation of an object with a simple configuration, and to provide a communication method in the electric field communication system, and a receiver unit in the electric field communication system.SOLUTION: In a human body communication system comprising a transmitter 10 for transmitting signals, and a receiver unit 20 for receiving signals from the transmitter 10 by human body communication through an electric field intervening in the human body, the transmitter 10 has a signal transmission section 11 for transmitting signals by an electric field generated by inducing an electric field on the surface of the human body, the receiver unit 20 has a signal reception section 21 for receiving signals transmitted by the signal transmission section 11 by the electric field intervening in the surface of the human body, and a reception state determination part 24 for determining the reception state of signals received by the signal reception section 21.
