Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal refining method for accurately estimating a side wall coating thickness and adjusting to a prescribed thickness.SOLUTION: A metal refining method includes performing melting reduction of a burned ore by using, for instance, a three-phase AC electrode-type circular electric furnace which has a side wall 1 where a plurality of copper blocks 3 of high thermal conductance are locally inserted from a furnace outer side into a furnace inner side refractory layer of a metallic external wall part. The refining method adjusts an operation condition of the electric furnace, such as a shower water flow amount and a quantity of electricity by obtaining with a thermal flux meter or two or more thermometers 4, thermal flux of side wall parts 1a-1c into which the copper blocks 3 are inserted, and thermal flux of side wall parts 1d-1i excluding said side wall parts, obtaining a thickness of a slag coating layer adhering to a furnace inner side surface of each of the side wall parts 1 from each of the thermal fluxes thus obtained and a melting point of slag generated inside the electric furnace, and comparing the thickness thus obtained to the allowable range thereof.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
