To provide an electric motor capable of preventing a brush from adversely affecting a brush holder.
Only one end side in the length direction of a counter surface 51c of a brush 51 has single tapered shape sliding on the outer peripheral surface of a commutator 6. A first surface 51a of the brush 51 is almost arc-like in shape, protruding outward. The brush 51 is energized by a spring 53 to the outer peripheral surface of the commutator 6, so that the first surface 51a of the brush 51 and a second surface 51b abut against the inner peripheral surface of a brush holder 52. On the inner peripheral surface of he brush holder 52 that faces the first surface 51a, a holding surface 52a is formed, to regulate the first surface 51a of the brush 51 from moving in the rotational direction of the commutator 6. The holding surface 52a is almost arc-like, recessed inwardly, and allows only the tip part of the first surface 51a of the brush 51 to abut against it.
