To provide an electric power steering device capable of stabilizing a vehicle speed signal after a failure or an abnormality of a vehicle speed sensor system occurs, and continuing consistent steering.
The electric power steering device comprises a motor for giving a steering assist force to a steering mechanism, a torque sensor for detecting steering torque, a vehicle speed sensor, and an assist control unit for controlling an assist amount based on a torque sensor signal from the torque sensor and the vehicle speed signal from the vehicle speed sensor, and further comprises a failure detection unit 110 for detecting an abnormality of the vehicle speed signal, and a torque correction unit 133 for correcting the torque sensor signal according to a normal past vehicle speed signal before the vehicle speed indicates an abnormality when an abnormality of the vehicle speed signal is detected by the failure detection unit. When the abnormality of the vehicle speed signal is detected by the failure detection unit, the assist amount control unit controls the output of the motor based on a correction torque signal outputted from the torque correction unit and a predetermined vehicle speed set for failing.
