To reduce the power consumption by causing the electromagnetic force of a linear motor to effectively act on the movement of a front end tool.

The electric power tool 10 provided with a linear motor includes: a linear motor 20 configured from a mover and an iron core on which a coil is wound and reciprocating the mover relative to the iron core by an electromagnetic force; a front end tool 12 that is connected to the mover and can reciprocate; and a controller 30 configured to control the electromagnetic force of the linear motor 20 in response to the reciprocation. The electric power tool 10 is also provided with a spring 16 connected to the mover and pressing the mover in the direction toward a predetermined position of the reciprocation of the mover. While the mover is being moved, the controller 30 performs control so that the direction of the electromagnetic force of the linear motor 20 coincides with the direction of movement of the mover.
