PURPOSE: To permit the changing of height of a shelf in a refrigerating chamber without pulling out the shelf at every times to replace it.

CONSTITUTION: Projections 4 are provided at fore and rear parts of both side surfaces of a shelf 1. The projections 4 are supported by the switching device 5 of supporting bodies 2, 3 fixed to the side walls of a refrigerating chamber. The switching device 5 is constituted of a cylindrical chamber 6 with bottom, supporting grooves 7a, 7b, 7c, separated into upper, middle, lower grooves from the circumference of the cylindrical chamber 6 and extended horizontally substantially, a rotation body 8, pivoted about the cylindrical chamber 6 while supporting the projections 4, and a rotary body cover, regulating the free movement of the rotary body 8 by applying it on the rotation body 8 to cover it. When the height of the shelf 1 is changed, the shelf 1 is moved to this side to introduce the projections 4 into the recesses of the rotation body 8. When the height of the shelf 1 is lowered, for example, downward force is applied on the shelf 1, then, the rotary body 8 is turned into a predetermined direction and is stopped. When the rotation body 8 is stopped, the shelf 1 is pushed to move the projections 4 from the rotation unit 8 into the supporting grooves 7c.
