To provide a piezoelectric drive latching relay having a liquid metal contact.
The electric relay using conductive liquid in a switching mechanism has a pair of movable electric contacts 118, 120 fitted to a free end of a piezoelectric actuator 110 arranged between a pair of fixed electric contacts 114, 116. The contacts support droplets of the conductive liquid 122, 124 of liquid metals or the like respectively. Further, the piezoelectric actuator 110 is biased to deform in a flexural mode, move the pair of movable contacts, and close a gap between one of the fixed contacts 114 and one of the movable contacts 118, which coalesces the droplets of the conductive liquid 122 to form an electric circuit, and at the same time, a gap between the other fixed contact 116 and the other movable contact 120 is enlarged, which separates the droplets 124 of the conductive liquid to open the electric circuit.
