To fix an extension pipe securely to the main body of an electric vacuum cleaner during carriage with a simple configuration.
At the front part of an electric vacuum cleaner main body 1 an approximately cylindrical handle part 7 extending transversely is formed. A suction port 11 to which a hose 21 is coupled is formed on one side of the handle part 7, and an engaging recessed part 16 opening forwardly is formed on another side of the handle part 7. A fitting member 40 having an engaging projection 43 projecting along the longitudinal direction and engageable with the engaging recessed part 16 is fixed to an extension pipe to be coupled with the hose 21. An inclined plane 44 is formed at a peripheral end of the fitting member 40 on the side opposite to that from which the engaging projection 43 is projecting. A hook 17 is attached to the back part of the rear surface of the electric vacuum cleaner main body 1 to engage with the cavity of a suction opening 35. The suction opening 35 is fixed to the hook 17 and the projection 43 is engaged with the engaging recessed part 16 in order to fix the extension pipe 31 at two points, and a user carries the electric vacuum cleaner main body 1 by the handle part 7. Movement of the fitting member 40 is restrained by a hand 45 to prevent slipping out of the projection 43 from the engaging recessed part 16.
