To improve electric energy utilization efficiency in an electric vehicle, and to reduce degradation in the cycle life of a large capacity secondary battery due to kinetic energy regeneration operation during deceleration of the vehicle.
Kinetic energy variation of the vehicle due to deceleration/stop and subsequent start/acceleration when a signal at an intersection is red, and the temporal variation thereof are minimized by non-stop traveling of the intersection. During deceleration toward a stop point, e.g. a non-signalized intersection, inertia traveling where the kinetic energy of the vehicle is utilized directly, to the maximum, for traveling of the vehicle, or equal deceleration traveling in a deceleration close to the inertia traveling deceleration is carried out in place of kinetic energy regeneration traveling.
