To control a vehicle which drives at least one of drive wheels by a motor and drives the other drive, wheels by an electric motor so that the electric motor does not function as a generator, when driving by the electric motor is not needed.

When controlling the electric motor 54 which drives the other drive wheels in a non-drive state, the electric motor 54 and a battery 50 which supplies electric power to the electric motor are electrically disconnected by shutdown-control of an inverter 52. When the rotational speed of the electric motor reaches a predetermined value or higher, however, such an electrical disconnection is inhibited and field-weakening control is performed.
