The electrical heating type catalyst includes: the ceramic carrier; a surface electrode disposed on a surface of the ceramic carrier; and a metal electrode having a comb-tooth part, in which three or more teeth aligned parallel to one another are connected to the surface electrode respectively. The comb-tooth part is formed so that an electrical resistance of a tooth positioned on an end part side thereof is lower than that of a tooth positioned in a center part thereof, more particularly, the metal electrode is formed so that the cross-sectional area of the comb-tooth part positioned on the end part side is larger than that of the comb-tooth part positioned in the center part.
