Abstract:
PURPOSE:To make it possible to operate a diesel engine most efficiently according to a load condition by a method wherein a propeller and generators connected to the diesel engine through clutches, respectively, are provided and a motor is connected to the propeller through a clutch. CONSTITUTION:When the diesel engine is operated with a small output and a small torque, the clutch 12 is turned ON and the clutches 14 and 23 are turned OFF so that the propeller 10 is driven by the operation of the diesel engine 11 through the clutch 12 and a gear section 13. Next, when the engine is operated with a large output and a medium level torque, the clutches 12 and 23 are turned ON and the clutch 14 is turned OFF so that the engine 11 and gas turbines 16 and 17 are driven to operate the generators 18 and 19. Thus, the electric powers generated by the generators 18 and 19 are supplied to the motor 22 through a frequency conversion section 20 and the propeller 10 is driven by the engine 11 and the motor 22. Lastly, when the engine is operated with a large output and a large torque, the clutch 12 is turned OFF and the clutches 14 and 23 are turned ON so that the propeller 10 is driven by the motor 22 with the electric powers from the generators 15, 18 and 19.
