To provide an electrically conductive rubber composition that has low hardness and low strain and shows slight fluctuation in volume resistivity and reduced dependence on surrounding conditions and a process for producing the composition, and furthermore, provide an electrically conductive rubber member using the composition.
This electrically conductive rubber composition comprises a crosslinked particulate polymer, an uncrosslinked polymer (a linear polymer) and an electrical conductivity imparting agent, wherein the crosslinked particulate polymer is a nonpolar polymer (SBR or the like); the uncrosslinked polymer is a polar polymer (NBR or the like); and the electrical conductivity imparting agent is unevenly distributed mainly in the uncrosslinked polymer. The composition can be produced by initiating the kneading of the above components at a temperature (T°C) at which a Mooney viscosity of the uncrosslinked polymer attains a value the same as or less than a Mooney viscosity of the crosslinked particulate polymer. Preferably, the crosslinked particulate polymer has an average particle size of not more than 25 μm and a durometer A hardness of 45-80. The objective electrically conductive rubber member is produced by forming the electrically conductive rubber composition and thereafter vulcanizing the formed product.
