PURPOSE: To obtain an electrically conductive thallium oxide compound represented by a specified structural formula by electrolyzing a soln. prepd. by dissolving a Tl alkoxide compound and a supporting electrolyte in an alcoholic org. solvent.
CONSTITUTION: A Tl alkoxide compound and a supporting electrolyte are dissolved in an alcoholic org. solvent to prepare an electrolyte soln. A positive electrode made of an electrically conductive substance insoluble under oxidation such as platinum, gold or carbon and a negative electrode made of an electrically conductive substance such as platinum, iron or carbon are immersed in the electrolyte soln. in a noncontact state. DC voltage is then applied between the electrodes. The Tl alkoxide compound reacts with the supporting electrolyte in the soln., depositing a thallium (III) oxide compound on the surface of the positive electrode. The deposited compound is an electrically conductive compound represented by the formula (where A is an anionic electrolyte, each of x and y is a positive integer, and when A is an n-valent anion, x<3 and y<2x/n).
