Abstract:
A gas scrubber comprises a particle ionising stage followed by a spraying stage. The particle ionising stage comprises a housing incorporated transversely across the gas duct and having a larger cross-section than the duct; electrode wires extend transversely to the gas flow across the housing and have their ends outside the main gas flow. Electrode plates alternating with the wires lie in the direction of gas flow. Pref. insulators at the ends of the electrode wires are located in the housing but outside the cross-section of the gas duct. Used as a gas scrubber for sepg. very fine particles by ionisation, in this case ionisation of the particles themselveS, followed by a sprinkler or scrubber stage. The arrangement prevents short-circuiting between the electrode insulators and earth as a result of dust pptg. on the insulators themselves. The ionisation stage is pref. distant >=1 duct dia. upstream from the sprinkler stage, thus preventing wetting and short-circuiting. In addition the pptn. efficiency is very greatly increased and maintenance is rendered easier. The appts. is esp. suitable for sepg. particles of about 1 micron size.
