PURPOSE: To miniaturize an electro-magnetic clutch brake device by attaching a field to a captioned device with the center of a housing penetrated thereby, providing yoke inner and outer poles having built-in solenoid coils respectively and an electro-magnetic clutch and electro-magnetic brake on both sides of the poles, and controlling their abutting and separating by means of the solenoid coils.

CONSTITUTION: The passing of current to solenoid coils 36 excites a field 26 and as a result, a brake armature 48 moves toward the field 26 against a spring 50 to be released from the pressure contact of friction plates 54 and 47. At the same time, a clutch armature 20 moves toward a clutch lining 40 against a spring 18, and as a result, the clutch armature 20 is adsorbed to the clutch lining 40 for transmitting the torque of a driving shaft 14 to a driven shaft 16. The stopping of current passing to the solenoid coil 36 reverses the operation. Such constitution may shorten the axial length of an electromagnetic brake clutch device for miniaturizing it.
