To provide a suitable electro-optical display and a drive method.SOLUTION: In a drive method for driving an electrophoresis display having four types of particles, the first type of particle and the third type of particle are charged positive and the second type of particle and the fourth type of particle are charged negative. The method includes the steps of: (i) applying a first drive voltage to pixels in the electrophoresis display with first amplitude for a first time period and driving the pixels to a color state of the second type of particle in a visible side; and (ii) applying a second drive voltage opposite to the first drive voltage to pixels of the electrophoresis display with second amplitude smaller than the first amplitude for a second time period and driving the fourth type of particle toward a non-visible side.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
