Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for a transporter configured to perform any desired task or other action on an object.SOLUTION: A transporter 102 comprises a frame 112, a number of moveable surface-engaging components 114 attached to the frame 112, a number of actuators 116, and an electro-permanent magnet 126. The actuators 116 are operable so as to move the frame 112 with respect to the object 104 when the moveable surface-engaging components 114 is in contact with a surface 103 of the object 104. The electro-permanent magnet 126 is, when activated, operable so as to hold the number of the moveable surface-engaging components 114 in contact with the surface 103 of the object 104 by a magnetic force 122 between the electro-permanent magnet 126 and the object 114 and, when the electro-permanent magnet 126 is deactivated 132, operable so as to remove the magnetic force 122 to release the number of moveable surface-engaging components 114 from the surface 103 of the object 104.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
