To provide an electrochemical device which is superior in storage characteristics and high voltage cycle characteristics at a high temperature and also to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte used for the electrochemical device.
The electrochemical device includes: a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a nonaqueous electrolyte containing a nonaqueous solvent and an electrolyte salt. The nonaqueous solvent contains a fluorine-containing chain carbonate expressed by general formula (1): RfOCOOR (where Rf is a 1-4C fluorine-containing alkyl group, and R is a 1-4C alkyl group), and contains a total of 5000 ppm or less of a compound which is expressed by (I) general formula (2): RfOH (where Rf is a 1-4C fluorine-containing alkyl group), (II) general formula (3):ROH (where R is a 1-4C alkyl group), and (III) general formula (4): ROCOCl (where R is a 1-4C alkyl group) against the fluorine-containing chain carbonate.
