PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochemical device that includes a positive electrode layer whose positive-electrode material is oxygen, a negative electrode layer whose negative electrode material is metal or an electrode material including metal, and a separator and an electrolyte, and suppresses metal peroxide produced through oxidation reduction reaction from being deposited on a positive electrode.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an electrochemical device that includes a positive electrode layer whose positive-electrode substance is oxygen, a negative electrode layer whose negative electrode substance is metal and formed of an electrode material including the metal, and an organic electrolyte between the positive-electrode layer and the negative-electrode layer having a separator interposed therebetween, a host molecule including an oxygen dianion as a guest being included in a region where the host molecule can come into contact with a metal peroxide produced through oxidation reduction reaction between the oxygen and metal. The host molecule is preferably an urea derivative represented by formula (1) and/or a thiourea derivative and the host molecule is preferably dissolved in the organic electrolyte. The electrochemical device is suitably used for a metal air secondary battery.
