Title:
ELECTROCHEMICAL OXIDATION OF THALLIUM ( 1 )
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6123779
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain thallium (III) sulfate or nitrate by electrolytically oxidizing thallium ( I ) sulfate or nitrate in an aqueous soln. of sulfuric acid or nitric acid using platinum or a platinum plated metal as a cathode. CONSTITUTION:A 0.1-10M aqueous soln. of sulfuric acid and/or nitric acid contg. thallium ( I ) sulfate and/or thallium ( I ) nitrate at 1-30% concn. is prepd. The soln. is electrolytically oxidized using platinum and/or a platinum plated metal as a cathode to obtain thallium (III) sulfate and/or thallium (III) nitrate. Thus, the electrolytic oxidation of thallium ( I ) ions to thallium (III) ions is efficiently carried out without depositing metallic thallium.
