Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reaction efficiency of the electrochemical reaction apparatus.SOLUTION: The electrochemical reaction apparatus includes: an anode for generating oxygen by oxidizing water; a cathode having an electrolyte flow passage which is facing the anode and provided for allowing an electrolyte containing water to flow, a porous conductive layer having a first surface and a second surface, and a reduction catalyst layer having a third surface in contact with the first surface and containing a reduction catalyst for producing a carbon compound by reducing carbon dioxide; a separator which separates the anode and the cathode; a power source electrically connected to the anode and the cathode; and a flow passage plate having a fourth surface in contact with the second surface and having a flow passage which is provided for allowing the carbon oxide to flow and facing the second surface. The ratio of the area of an overlapping part of the second surface with the flow passage with respect to the area of the second surface is between 0.5 and 0.85, both inclusive.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
