PURPOSE: To obtain an electroconductive polymer excellent in solvent solubility and processability, by polymerizing an electrolytically polymerizable monomer in the presence of an oxidizing agent in a reaction solvent in which a specified anionically surface-active polymer is dispersed or dissolved.
CONSTITUTION: An anionically surface-active polymer (A) contained as a counter ion of an electroconductive polymer of any one of formulas IWIV [wherein R1W7 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl(aryl), an aryl and m and n are each 0W2] is dispersed or dissolved in a reaction solvent such as water or an alcohol. An electrolytically polymerizable monomer (D) having units of formula V or VI [wherein R8W9 are each R1, X is O, S or a group of formula VII (wherein R10 is H, an alkyl, an aryl or an alkylaryl)] in such a ratio that 0.1W10 equivalents of the anion exchange groups of component A are present per equivalent of component D is polymerized in said reaction solvent in the presence of an oxidizing agent (B) such as a persulfate or FeCl3 and, optionally, at least either an inorganic anion or an organic low-molecular anion (C).
