Abstract:
PURPOSE:To drop the overvoltage of electrodes and to improve the power efficiency by plating the surfaces of the electrodes with nickel in a nickel plating bath contg. a nickel salt and thiourea or thiocyanate. CONSTITUTION:A nickel plating bath contg. a nickel salt, one or more among thiourea, thiocyanate and an oxo acid salt of sulfur having <=5 oxidation number of sulfur, and ammonium ions is prepd. The surfaces of metallic substrates are plated with nickel in the plating bath to form an anode and a cathode. An aqueous alkali soln. is electrolyzed using those electrodes to generate oxygen at the anode and hydrogen at the cathode. By this method, the overvoltage of the electrodes is dropped and the power efficiency is improved.
