Title:
ELECTRODE FOR GENERATING HYDROGEN, MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREFOR AND ELECTROLYSIS METHOD USING IT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2005330575
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide an electrode for generating hydrogen which has sufficiently low hydrogen overpotential, is not poisoned by iron ions, further does not increase the hydrogen overpotential and does not drop a carried substance therein even during operation and when starting/stopping electrolysis, and has superior durability; a method for manufacturing the electrode for generating hydrogen; and an electrolysis method using the electrode for generating hydrogen as a cathode.

The electrode for generating hydrogen comprises: a conductive substrate; and a platinum alloy comprising platinum and one metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt, copper, silver and iron, or an amorphous substance of a transition metal element and platinum, either of which is carried on the substrate. The electrode is produced by the steps of: applying a solution of a compound of one metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt, copper, silver and iron, and a solution of a platinum compound forming an ammine complex; drying the formed film; thermally decomposing it at 200 to 700°C; and further reducing it.
