To provide an electrode material by which a small electrolytic capacitor having capacitance larger than that of the conventional one can be provided and also to provide its manufacturing method.
The electrode material is constituted in such a way that fine particles 1 of an Al-Ti intermetallic compound or an Al-Nb intermetallic compound are compacted, in contact with each other, into a porous body and sintered and, further, an oxide film 3 is formed on the surface of the fine particles 1 of the intermetallic compound. The electrode material having the above constitution can be manufactured by compacting the fine particles of the Al-Ti intermetallic compound or Al-Nb intermetallic compound and subjecting the resultant porous body to heating and sintering and then to chemical conversion treatment. Preferably, the particle size of the fine particles 1 of the intermetallic compound is set to 0.05 to 150μm.
