To provide: an electrode material capable of improving both density and electron conductivity of an electrode active material layer, and hence improving the charge/discharge performance of an electrode and, further, increasing a battery capacity; an electrode paste for a lithium ion battery; an electrode for a lithium ion battery; and a lithium ion battery.
An electrode material of the present invention includes: electrode active material particles containing a transition metal lithium phosphate compound having an olivine structure; and a carbonaceous material coating the electrode active material particles and binding the electrode active material particles. In the electrode material, a plurality of the electrode active material particles are agglomerated together to form agglomerates including the electrode active material particles and the carbonaceous material. The agglomerates have an average compressive strength of 0.05 kgf/mm2 or more and 2.0 kgf/mm2 or less.
