Abstract:

PURPOSE: To lower the temp. of electrode surface in the course of plasma production and to decrease the consumption velocity of electrode by adding LaB6 to an electrode material consisting of HfC and ZrC.

CONSTITUTION: This electrode material for plasma cutting is prepared by adding LaB6 so that it comprises 0.01-10wt.% of the composition of an electrode material consisting of HfC and/or ZrC. By the addition of LaB6, thermion emitting capacity in the material is improved and the electrode surface temp. in the course of plasma production can be lowered. As a result, the consumption velocity of electrode can be decreased and the service life of the electrode material can be prolonged. As to the addition quantity of LaB6, the service life (arcing time) of the electrode material can be prolonged when it is in the above range, and, when it exceeds 10%, the service life is shortened.
