In an electrode plate 30 for an electric upsetter to heat a forged member 10 from its end face by flowing large current between the forged member 10 and a support plate 20 with one surface of the forged member abutted on and supported by the conductive support plate 20 and with the end face of the forged member 10 pressed against the other surface, the surface against which the forged member 10 is pressed is formed as a ceramic layer 32 consisting of the conductive ceramic layer 32, the surface abutted on the support plate 20 is formed as a metallic layer 34, and a buffer layer 36 to mitigate the thermal stress, etc., is formed between the ceramic layer 32 and the metallic layer 34.
