To provide an electrodeless discharge lamp capable of reducing energy loss of a core while reducing the volume of the core without performing complicated processing to the core, and stably lighting a lamp with improved luminous efficiency of the lamp, and a luminaire using the same.
The electrodeless discharge lamp A comprises a bulb 2 formed in a closed loop shape using a translucent material and having a discharge gas sealed therein, a core 1 formed of a magnetic body and mounted on the bulb 2 while inserting the bulb 2 therethrough, and an induction coil 3 wound on the core 1. The bulb 2 is a circular tube, in which a pair of main light emitting parts 2b formed in substantially U-shape and a pair of straight tube parts 2a larger in diameter than the main light emitting parts 2b constitute one continuous discharge space, and each core 1 is attached to each straight tube part 2a. The luminaire B comprises the electrodeless discharge lamp A, and a lighting circuit 4 applying a high frequency current to the induction coil 3 to generate a high frequency magnetic field within the bulb 2.
