Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrodeless lamp which can shorten a starting time in an early stage of lighting even if an ambient temperature of a bulb is a low temperature.SOLUTION: An electrodeless discharge lamp comprises: a closed loop-shaped bulb inserted through annular cores; a first inductive coil formed in a part of the annular core; and a second inductive coil operable to generate a second induced electric field different from a first induced electric field, provided that the second induced electric field is generated in a direction crossing the first induced electric field generated along the closed loop shape of the bulb. The electrodeless discharge lamp is arranged to emit light in such a way that the first induced electric field is generated along the closed loop shape of the bulb by an effect of electromagnetic induction caused by an RF current passed through the first inductive coil to excite metal vapor sealed in the bulb, and ultraviolet light thus generated is converted into visible light.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
