Abstract:
PURPOSE:To form an electrodeposition coating having excellent smoothness and thick even at its edge by dispersing a mixture of an acrylic copolymer and fine pigment particles in water to obtain a cationic electrodeposition coating composition, electrodepositing the composition on a material to be coated, electrodepositing another cationic electrodeposition coating composition, baking, and curing the compositions. CONSTITUTION:An acrylic copolymer (A component) contg. a hydrolyzable alkoxysilane and a cationic group and having generally about 10-100 hydroxyl group value and about 5000-100,000 number average mol.wt. is prepared. Meanwhile, the fine pigment particles (B component) having >=100 oil absorption and <=3.5mum primary particle diameter is prepared. A mixture of the A component and the B component is dispersed in water to cause cross linking in the particles, and a cationic electrodeposition paint composition (I) contg. fine gelled polymer particles contg. fine pigment particles is obtained. The composition is coated with the composition (I) by electrodeposition. The obtained uncured electrodeposition coating film is coated with a cationic electrodeposition paint composition (II) having <=0.7mA/cm<2> minimum electrodeposition and electrodissolution density, and then the compositions are baked and then cured.
