Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce display voltage by forming an insulating film being in contact with an emission film, out of a thin film of inorganic insulator having a complex composition of columnar crystal extending in the direction of an electric field generated in a layered body.
CONSTITUTION: A transparent electrode film 2 is formed on the upper surface of am insulating substrate 1 of a display device 10, into a striped pattern. An inorganic insulating film 3 comprising silicon nitride and tantalum oxide and so on, is deposited by sputtering and so on into a composition which is deposited up to the same height as of the columnar crystal 3a. An emission film 4 is formed thereupon, on which heat treatment is carried out so as to activate the emission center. An insulating film 5 having a complex composition of a columnar crystal 5a is arranged on the film 4 in the same manner as for the film 3. The films 3, 5 now have higher dielectric constant than the film 4, while distributed voltages of the films 3 and 5 in display voltage are reduced, and the utilization efficiency of the display voltage is increased. The display voltage required for the driving of the device 10 is thus reduced.
