To improve the intensity of luminescence and its stability for repeated use by using a chelate metal complex having a specific acylhydrazone derivative as a ligand, as a material for organic layers such as a hole transporting layer, a luminescence layer, and an electron carrier layer, disposed between a positive electrode and a negative electrode.
One or more organic layers, such as a hole carrier layer, a luminescent layer, and an electron carrier layer, are layered and disposed between confronting positive and negative electrodes, and they are disposed on a glass substrate to form an electroluminescent element. As a material for the organic layers, a chelate metal complex is used having a compound expressed by an expression as a ligand. In the expression, R1 to R4 independently stand for a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a cyano group, a nitro group, a hydroxyl group, an amino group, a dialkylamino group, an alkylarylamino group, diarylamino group, an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocycle group, and X stands for a heterocyclic group or an aryl group. Preferably, the metal in the chelate metal complex is zinc. This provides the electroluminescent element with excellent luminescence brightness and life stability.
