To obtain the subject material having excellent stability with passing of time and useful for an electroluminescent diode, etc., by containing a specific side-chain electroluminescent polymer.
This electroluminescent material contains a side-chain electroluminescent polymer expressed by formula I [R1 is (CH2)n {(n) is 2-10}; the luminescent unit is expressed by formula II [R2 is OCqH2q+1 or OOCCqH2q+1 {(q) is 1-20}; R4 is formula III {(p) is 0 or 1; (t) is 0-20}; R3 is formula IV], etc.; GR is formula V {(w) is 2-10}, etc.]. For instance, the material is obtained by obtaining N-(4-butylphenyl)-4-(N-4-vinyl-benzyloxyethyl-N-methylamino) naphthalimide monomer by reacting 4-(N-2-hydroxyethyl-N-methylamino)-N-(4- butylphenyl)naphthalimide in the presence of NaH, petroleum ether, a compound of formula VI and dimethylformamide, and polymerizing the resultant monomer in the presence of toluene and azobisisobutyronitrite.
